Works to ensure that every student in the United States receives an effective action civics education, which provides them with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in our democracy as active citizens (middle & high school) by engaging current college students as volunteer classroom teachers. Experience Corps | Retired Teachers as Classroom Aids Engages older adults (50+) as tutors and mentors to increase literacy skills of children in grades K-3. We are effective in bolstering educational practice in Bay Area schools and our volunteers have been indispensable to our success. Places AmeriCorps members into classrooms as Teaching Assistants to help provide instructional support to classroom teachers and schools. TFA Bay Area | Recent College Grads as Teachers Places high achieving college graduates in schools within low-income communities across the Bay Area and provides them with training and support to be a full-time classroom teacher. Reading Partners | Volunteers Reading 1:1 with Students By placing community volunteers in the Bay Area in schools, they are working toward a future where all children have the individualized support for literacy skills they need to become strong readers and lifelong learners.
